Frankelda writes about monsters. Then she has to face them. I Am Frankelda follows a young writer in 19th-century Mexico whose imagination becomes a world she can enter, even while the people around her dismiss her stories. A viewing guide to I Am Frankelda

Original context, checked against this title’s facts and the sources below. Streaming listings are dated separately above.

Where Frankelda’s story begins

This stop-motion film comes from Cinema Fantasma's Roy and Arturo Ambriz. It goes back into Francisca Imelda's life and her friendship with Herneval, the pair introduced in Frankelda's Book of Spooks. You can start here without knowing that series. The puppets, dark fantasy, and musical storytelling are part of the adventure; Frankelda's struggle to be heard gives it a human starting point.
